Chelsea faces merciless destruction in European home game

Lampard’s champions league dream was yesterday put to an end when they were brutally beaten by Bayern Munich 3-0 at Stamford Bridge as  Marcos Alonso was sent off seven minutes from time for clashing with Lewandowski.

The result leaves Chelsea with a heavy task in the second leg, with Jorginho also set to miss out in the second league scheduled on March 18.

The Blues have lost eight matches at Stamford Bridge in all competitions this season, their most at home in a single campaign since 1985-1986, yesterday’s defeat being Chelsea’s greatest ever defeat in a European home game.

This means that Chelsea can now concentrate on the top four in the premier league and the FA Cup fifth-round meeting with Liverpool which will be in a week’s time.
