To pay or not to pay?

One of the things that is frustrating many people is having to pay rent. As many people are at home, their earning capability has also gone down. Businesses are not recording normal sales as they were before the arrival of the pandemic. Having to choose between rent and food is hard. You don’t want to buy food and be kicked out of your house.

But how should people go about it? The first cause of action would be to speak to your landlord. Explaining where you are at the moment will help. However, it should also be noted that some of the landlords depend solely on rent to survive. Thus whatever they say should not be held against them. They too have bills to pay. But remaining honest during this period is best.

Secondly, you should make sure that you keep your word to the landlord. If you agree on half payment or payment in installments, keep your word and don’t let it become a game of hide and seek. Realize that this is a relationship you are building. This season will pass, but your relationship will last for a lifetime.

Thirdly, if you are able to pay, do so. Do not take advantage of what is happening to stop paying your rent. Nobody wants to be in a situation where they are unable to meet their needs.
